Description

The Central Ohio Chapters of IFMA and USGBC partner this November to offer a tour in one of the first facilities in Ohio to pursue certification under both the WELL Building Standard and LEED v4 for Commercial Interiors rating system. Whereas LEED focuses primarily on the building itself and the sustainability attributes associated with a project’s construction, WELL focuses on the people inside of the building. The program will begin with an introduction to WELL and develop further into more specifics of both rating systems, concluding with a guided tour of the ~8,000 SF office space to learn about the practical application of some of the WELL and LEED features pursued by the project team.

The Heapy Columbus Office project is a commercial interiors renovation of a suite within the existing four-story Highlights for Children building located in Grandview, OH. The project primarily consisted of a complete mechanical and lighting retrofit. The general building construction remained, except for the demolition of a few walls to open up the interior space and improve views. The mechanical portion of the project included replacing the existing heat pumps serving the space with ten individual water-source heat pumps to meet the building heating and cooling loads. Lighting renovation consisted of the replacement of existing lay-in fluorescent lighting with LED fixtures throughout. Lighting is controlled with manual wall switches with multi-level control and diming capabilities, as well as task lights for individual workstations. Some of the office staff’s favorite implemented WELL features include the Right to Light, Drinking Water Promotion, Active Furnishings, Biophilia and Beauty & Design. Join the Columbus WE Hub, IFMA, and USGBC to learn about these and more at the upcoming tour!
